Joe Smith's Horizon 2

Joe C. Smith built a Horizon 2. Unfortunately, Joe was killed in an automobile accident in 2004 before he had a chance to fly the plane.  See the bottom of this page for some additional information on his engine choice.

With the wings in one place and engine in another, Joe is seen here next to a beautiful Horizon 2.

This photo shows the Corvair conversion engine that Joe has built for power on his plane.  Note the starter on the top of the flywheel.  Joe's machining talents can be seen in the starter mount used to secure the starter to the top of the engine.

Joe deviated from the plans to develop a rudder pedal with toe-action brake.

Update (8-1-2005)  Joe's plane experienced difficulty on its first flight.  The Corvair engine was taken off and replaced with an A-65.  I am not sure if the A-65 was ever flown.  The Corvair setup appeared to be too heavy for this application.
