Mike Kastern's Horizon 1

Based in East Troy, WI, Michael Kastern has turned out a Horizon 1 with a final weight of 515 lbs.  Powered by a Continental 65 swinging a Flotorp 72/46 propeller.   This plane was plans built and took Michael approximately 1300 hours to construct.   Michael now has an email address:mikas@wcf.net His phone number is 414-642-5768 and address is W2423 Valley Rd. East Troy, WI 53120.  As new information on Michael's plane becomes available, it will be included here.

UPDATE:  I have rebuilt the gear using4130 steel tubing and installed anew ground adg. prop from precision propeller of Vernal,Utah. I have flown it twice since and am still tweaking the pitch on the prop. I have a total of about 22 hours on the aircraft and all is working ok. I am a relatively low time pilot (130 hours or so). Aircraft I have flown in the past include; Cessna 150, and 172, Piper Cherokee, Piper J3 and a citabria. The horizon flies unlike any of these. It is much more sensitve on the controls and sinks quickly when power is cut. It does not float at all in ground effect when landing. When you flare it lands right now. The only control adjustment I've had to make was add a rudder trim tab. I love flying with the windows off and the door open when weather permits. It is getting toward spring here now  and I am looking forward to more flying as the evenings get longer.
