Scott Todd's Youngster
N42BP was finished and flown July 13, 2005. It started life as a plan built Fisher Youngster. The front was changed to give a more streamlined Cub look. The engine was moved. The cowl, 12 gallon fuel tank, and forward turtle deck were all custom designed and made for this engine installation. The rear fuselage was lengthened 1 foot to account for the design changes in the front. The CG is exactly at the design location of 25%MAC with the pilot, personal parachute and ½ fuel. The rear turtle deck was re-designed and accommodates a Ballistic Recovery Systems (BRS) installation. The Landing gear is a custom steel design for this application. The wings are built exactly per plans with re-enforced tip bows to accommodate the navigation lights. It has a full electrical system including lights, COM, Transponder, GPS, a custom designed electronic turn coordinator and ‘G’ meter, electronic compass, electric pitch trim, Stratomaster Ultra, electronic fuel flow, and ELT.
The engine is an AeroVee 2180 VW conversion with a Sensenich Wood prop. It has dual ignitions and uses a gravity feed fuel system. It starts and runs great. Climb is around 1000 fpm at 60 mph. Cruise at 2000 rpm indicates 75 mph at less than 3 GPH and 2450 rpm yields 95 mph at 4 GPH.
